Ethan Purcell sees community as a circle of neighbors, everyone matters. “I consider everyone to be my neighbor, whether they live next door or on the opposite side of town. We're supposed to care for neighbors, and if I’m in a place where I can give back yet I’m not, then how can I think of myself as a member of the community?”
Being named a 2025 Community Champion is a source of pride for Ethan. “When I got into the news business, it was never about recognition. Over the years at FOX West Texas, it’s moments like this that remind me my work is valuable and has an impact.”
Ethan considers his reporting a form of service, shedding light on organizations like Meals for the Elderly and keeping the community informed on news, government, and events. He also carries a personal connection to service: his grandmother was a Meals on Wheels driver in Lubbock, leaving him with cherished memories of helping others and connecting with neighbors.
A guiding verse for Ethan is Galatians 5:13: “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
