Who is eligible for Meals For The Elderly?

* Those 60 and over at any income level, living on their own, but unable to prepare meals.
* Younger, disabled adults also may be eligible with a referral from a physician.

How do I apply?

Individuals may contact Meals For The Elderly themselves or they may be referred to the agency by a health care provider, physician, family member, friend, or clergy. Meals For The Elderly services are available both short-term and long-term. A brief interview is conducted over the telephone to obtain the required information. The information needed is very basic and includes items such as name, address, telephone, reason service is required, diet information, next of kin or contact person, name of physician, and other related details. To begin receiving meals, the applicant must complete an Application for Service at least twenty-four hours before meal service is to begin.

When are the meals delivered?

Deliveries are made every Monday through Friday between 10:30 and Noon. Sack lunches are provided for the weekend, and frozen meals are delivered on Friday for those needing weekend meals. Meals are not delivered on the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

What is the delivery area?

Meals are delivered to San Angelo, Wall, Grape Creek, Water Valley, and Carlsbad.

Are special diets available?

All meals are low salt and low cholesterol. Diabetic meals are also available.

What are the costs?

There is no fee charged; however, contributions are requested.
